In order to handle a conflict in a peacefull manner you need to have the right attitude and skills. For each of these attitudes and skills you can find an example in the cartoon. Read the attitudes and skills and try to think of a situation in which these attitudes and skills could help you.
1.
Rosa, made a couple of really hurtfull remarks about Kyalo, but he remained calm. If he wouldn't have been confident about himself he might have gotten angry and the conflict could have gotten out of hand.
Attitude: Humiliation is easier to deal with if you feel good about yourself.
Skill: I can build my self-confidence by reminding myself every day that I love myself the way I am.
2.
Kyalo can tell Rosa, that he would like to talk about her remarks, but that the timing isn't right and he will come back to it later.
Attitude: Conflict does not need to be resolved immediately.
Skills: I can tell the person that I am too upset or angry right now to respond but that I would like to come back to talk about it later.
3.
Next time Baba Benny should practice the attitude and skills below:
Attitude: I can think before I react.
Skill: I can take a few deep breaths and quietly count to ten before I respond.
4.
Baba Benny has learned from this experienced and hopefully he will apply the following attitude and skill next time:
Attitude: There is power in nonviolence.
Skills: I can remind myself that there is strength and dignity in gentle firmness.
5.

Fighting or running away was what the whole family did untill the big fight at the end of the story. Finallly they saw there are better ways to deal with a conflict.
Attitude: When I am involved in a conflict, fighting or running away are not the only two choices I have.
Skills: I can respond assertively by telling the person how I feel and asking them not to behave in that way again.
